About this book
Carved from a piece of enchanted wood by the lonely craftsman Geppetto, Pinocchio springs to life already impudent, disobedient, and irresistibly curious. He kills the wise Cricket who tries to guide him, sells his schoolbook for a circus ticket, falls for the schemes of a swindling Fox and Cat, is hanged from an oak tree, turns into a donkey, and is swallowed by a Terrible Shark—only to find his father alive inside it. Through each disaster Pinocchio's conscience resurfaces: a Fairy with azure hair watches over him, Geppetto sacrifices everything for him, and the boy who was never born must learn, painfully and repeatedly, that honesty and hard work are the only paths to becoming truly human.
